On Monday, March 12, 2018, Tercero was identified as a person of interest in connection to the homicide of Haley Anderson.  Anderson’s body was found by cops performing a welfare check at a home in Binghamton on Friday, March 9, 2018. He fled the U.S. to Nicaragua before Anderson’s body was found. 

Tercero’s Facebook page has been deleted but it previously listed him as going to school for nursing at Binghamton University.

Cops believe Anderson’s ex-boyfriend Orlando Tercero, 22, skipped town and hopped an 8:40 a.m Friday morning flight out of New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Nicaragua — giving him a four-hour headstart before Anderson was found dead at around 1 p.m. in a Binghamton, New York, off-campus home where Tercero lived, Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski told ABC News.

Orlando Tercero Had a Previous Relationship with Anderson

Mishela Topalli, Haley Anderson’s roommate, has stated to Time that Tercero and Anderson that the two knew each other.

“They hooked up in the past, but to her, it was pretty platonic and she didn’t want to have anything seriously.”

Unfortunately, this hooks up may have come with a price.

According to Topalli, Tercero became somewhat “obsessed” with Anderson. There is a police report of an incident between Tercero and Anderson where the property of Anderson’s was damaged. While the incident occurred, Anderson declined to file charges at the time.

Orlando Tercero Disappeared before Body Was Found

According to Binghamton Police, Tercero fled the United States before Anderson’s body was discovered. Tercero reportedly headed to Nicaragua due to having family there.

Tercero was discovered and arrested at the Hospital de León in Nicaragua on March 13, 2018. He was pictured with a fat lip and a small bandaged wound on his head. Nicaraguan authorities say that the wounds were self-inflicted.

Tercero was transferred to a prison in El Chipote to await extradition.
