Expat Mijas Costa was away from seeing his friends while there was a tragedy in Calahonda.

“It was horrible, I was in shock – it was devastating to see it that way.
“I called an ambulance and helped his stepfather jump into the hole eight meters deep, but until about two hours later, we couldn’t get him out of there.
“It was totally cold at this point, lying there for over 15 hours.
“People in the police and ambulance couldn’t reach him – so it wasn’t until the fire brigade came up a ladder and finally got out.”

“We have lost a 39-year-old person, passed his life and want to get justice.
“It was very clear, very close to the street where people were walking, and there was no light in the street.”

Claud said: “He went to an Irish pub and had some drinks with some of his friends.
“I told one of my friends that Richie was sure that they all returned home safely and that he would walk home – he often walks home.
“He loved a 2km (1.24 mile) walk and walk, so it was pretty normal for him.
“There is a road with lights and paths, but in this case he chose the shortest road without light and I think he must have entered this hole.
“If he could wait for him to come home at 12:00 that night and wait for his keys, he texted me.
“I was waiting for him and he was still not here at 2 in the morning and I was wondering what it was.
“I didn’t think something could happen at this point – I’m not a negative person, so I thought he might have met another friend on the road.
