Melissa Banda body found
Hidalgo County Sheriff J.E. “Eddie” Guerra said on social media that the body of a 37-year-old woman, whom authorities said disappeared after being forced into a vehicle by her husband, was found late Friday evening.
According to Guerra, the sheriff’s office, McAllen police, and investigators at the FBI found Melissa Banda’s “dead body” at 23:33. FM 493 and Mile 14 1/2 near Donna east of North.
Guerra said that the sheriff’s major crimes unit is handling the case and is currently a death investigation.
McAllen police said in a press release Friday that they were summoned to the 7100 block of North Seventh Avenue at 3:49 pm. On Thursday, 40-year-old Richard Ford’s husband allegedly forced Banda into an SUV.
This vehicle, a rented white Dodge SUV, was found at 9:32 AM. On Thursday or at Beach Access 5 on South Padre Island. Ford was there and was arrested by Cameron County law enforcement officials.
McAllen police said Ford was detained on two arrest warrants for harassment and violation of the court order. On June 30, Banda reported to McAllen police that that morning Ford had violated a protection order that called him and prohibited him from making any contact with him.
