Mary Ellen Molloy was sitting in the back of an Uber travelling along Kings Way in Melbourne on Friday night when the large gum tree branch fell on the vehicle at 8.50 pm.

She had been in the car with two female co-workers who escaped serious injury along with the driver.

Shepassed away after being taken to the hospital.

A woman in the back seat of the car was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with head and back injuries. She is now stable.

While her other colleague in the front seat were not injured.

Witness Christian Pansino claimed” “The large branch fell ‘straight onto the car’ and it wasn’t windy or anything”.

Several people have been killed this year by falling tree branches.

Victoria Police spokesman Leading Sen-Constable Rohan Imms said: “Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of a woman in South Melbourne Friday night”.
