Lavern Blackmon is an Arkansas man suspected of kidnapping and killing his ex-wife earlier this week has been found dead in Texas, authorities said Thursday.
Arkansas State Police said in a news release that Texas law enforcement authorities notified special agents in Arkansas that Lavern Blackmon, 57, of Conway, was found dead in Conroe, Texas, possibly of a self-inflected gunshot wound. Conroe is about 40 miles (64.37 kilometers) north of Houston.

Law enforcement agencies across the region had been following leads in the search for Blackmon, who was charged with kidnapping and capital murder.
State police said Blackmon was last seen Monday in Little Rock after kidnapping Viola Davis as she left her home in Mitchellville at about 5:30 a.m. to go to work. State police said Davis’ body was found a short time later along an area road. Mitchellville, a city of about 400, is located 90 miles (144.84 kilometers) southeast of Little Rock.

Texas law enforcement authorities notified the Special Representatives of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division shortly after 18:00. Tonight Conway Lavern Blackmon is dead. Initially, officials in Conroe, Texas believe that Blackmon died from an armed wound affected by him.

Lavern Blackmon Last Seen

Conway’s 57-year-old Lavern Blackmon was last seen at Little Rock on Monday (June 29th), and as reportedly in Mitchellville (Desha County) on her way home to her home at about 5:30 on her way home to Viola Davis. His body was found shortly after Kirtley Road, northeast of Dumas.
Special Representatives of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division use every resource to find Blackmon, believed to be driving a 2008 Gray Chevrolet Avalanche truck. Blackmon could possibly have escaped from the state.
Blackmon is believed to have at least two pistols and can possibly pose a threat to others. He is currently charged with Kidnapping and Capital Murder in Desha County.
The general public should not try to interfere or approach Blackmon if it is seen. Instead, please contact your nearest law enforcement agency immediately. Anyone who knows the location of Blackmon is asked to contact the Arkansas State Police.

Authorities in Conroe, Texas, a town 40 miles north of Houston, found Lavern Blackmon of Conway dead of what police believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the release said.
Blackmon, 57, was wanted in the kidnapping and murder of Viola Davis, his ex-wife. Davis’ body was found Monday along Kirtley Road northeast of Dumas, according to the release.
Blackmon was last seen Monday in Little Rock driving a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. He was found dead in the vehicle Friday, the release said.
