Sheriff officials said 38-year-old Gregory Stephens was arrested in connection with the shooting and murder of 51-year-old native partner Kellie Henry in a farmhouse in a rural area south of Altamont Pass.
Lawmakers said that Stephens told family members about the murder and later warned law enforcement. It was reported that the suspect said that he would commit suicide.
What officials say about Kellie Henry’s Death
Sheriff officials said lawmakers had responded to the house at 9200 block of Tesla Road on Sunday afternoon and found Henry with a visible gunshot wound near the front door as the suspect entered and exited the house. It was believed to be armed.
A Crisis Response Unit and Special Response Unit were brought to the scene, along with drones, robots, and police dogs. An East Bay Regional Parks Police helicopter was also deployed.
According to law enforcement officials, negotiators were able to connect Stephen to the phone and persuade him to return. Since then he has been taken to the Santa Rita Prison.

Authorities said the couple had been together for at least 10 years and apparently had internal problems that led to the shooting.
The event started around 14:22. On Sunday, the sheriff’s aides responded to a rural farmhouse on 9200 block of Tesla Road. According to a statement from the sheriff’s department, family members called the authorities, saying that Stephens called them, admitted that he shot Henry and would take his own life.

When the deputies arrived, they saw a woman lying on the ground near the front door of the house and suffering from a gunshot wound. Using dogs and drones, they searched the ministry’s special response and crisis response units to keep the police away from a suspect they believed was armed.
A sheriff official said that crisis intervention negotiators were able to reach out to the man, establish rapport, and finally convince him to arrest him around 5:15 pm.
MPs later reached the woman who was declared dead at the scene.
