East Indian School Road Shooting suspect
Around 2:40 a.m., a male suspect, 30-year-old Robert Blackwater, entered the convenience store off of East Indian School Road and North 82nd Street in the Phoenix suburb with a gun and demanding money.
During the exchange, multiple rounds were fired at or near the clerk before striking and killing a bystander, 35-year-old Joseph Toki, who had walked into the store.
As Blackwater left the store, he encountered another bystander, Toki’s friend, outside in the parking lot. The suspect fired several rounds, hitting the bystander.
The bystander returned fire with his handgun, striking and killing Blackwater.
The shot bystander was treated by the Scottsdale Fire Department and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The clerk involved in the incident was uninjured, authorities said.
Additionally, authorities discovered the suspect fit the description at two other robberies that took place at two Circle K locations on Thursday night and Friday morning.
Officials reported no injuries in those incidents.
No other information was immediately available as the investigation is ongoing.
