The community mourns the life of the rookie Bothell police officer killed during a traffic stop on Monday night.


According to hospital spokesman Susan Gregg, officer Jonathan Shoop was on the scene, a second officer was rushed to treatment at the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and died on Tuesday morning when he was treated and released. The authorities have not yet identified the surviving officer.

The suspect was later arrested after an hour-long human hunt, but his identity was not released.
Police said Shoop started law enforcement on 3 June 2019 after serving at the US Coast Guard. Her fiancee, mother and two brothers survived.

The incident started at 21:40. Everell officers are trying to pull a driver westward on SR 522, according to Aaron Snell of Everett Police, who is now among the agencies investigating the shooting. After a short chase, the runaway driver hit a man on a scooter and hit a central median in the 10300 block of Woodinville Drive.

Investigators said the driver had landed, walked towards the patrol car and started throwing a gun at the windshield. Conflict was killed at the scene. Her partner in the passenger seat returned but was injured.
Beth Lakhan, who lives in Bothell, said, “Their work is very valuable and valuable, and we are very grateful that they are willing to give our lives to protect ourselves.
Bothell Mayor Liam Olsen released a statement Tuesday afternoon:

Our hearts are broken. Yesterday, July 13 marks a tragic day in Bothell’s history. Police Officer Jonathan Shoop was shot and killed in the line of duty. A second Police Officer was also shot but was not seriously wounded and has been released from the hospital.

On behalf of the entire Bothell City Council, we send our thoughts and prayers to Officer Shoop’s family and want our Bothell Police Department to know we grieve with you. You have our unwavering support during this incredibly difficult time.

The City’s current focus is on supporting our fallen officer’s family and ensuring our police department has the counseling, mental well-being resources and peer support they need.

The past few months have been unprecedented and difficult for first responders and now to lose one of our own is a horrific incident to comprehend. We are all so proud of the Bothell Police Officers who worked through the night, along with several of our neighboring agencies, to professionally and competently take the suspect into custody, protecting the community from further harm.

We are incredibly grateful for the surrounding law enforcement agencies who are assisting us now with call coverage and law enforcement support, so that services in our community are covered.

Thank you to the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, who stepped in immediately to investigate this shooting incident. When something like this happens, it is important for us to have a complete and thorough investigation. This external and independent investigation is vital for our community and department.

During the night shift on Tuesday night, Greg Opel shared with Shoop how to talk about Opel’s dog, Lucy, sometimes.

“He would see us in the park, and he would pull over aside and say hello to Lucy. I just liked the dog. And we would just chat, ”Opel said.

People filled the square outside the Bothell Town Hall throughout the day and brought it to their children as the parents paid their respect.

“We are a close-knit community. We tend to get together pretty well when the hard times come, so I thought I’d put them down and support the police here, ”says Brandon Roy, who emerged with his wife and children.
The man who was arrested for killing Shoop must be in court Wednesday. Family members claim that man has a history of mental illness.
