Janessa Del Valle was shot around 7:40 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Cedarwood Road off Briarwood Road, according to sheriff’s homicide Lt. Thomas Seiver.

According to Seiver, when deputies arrived, witnesses and deputies were doing CPR in Del Valle. The medics took him to a hospital, but he did not survive.
Lawmakers later learned that there was a fight between several women just before the shoot.
The shooting happened July 4 in Bonita. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department were called out to the parking lot of an apartment complex off Briarwood Road, south of state Route 54, at about 7:40 p.m. where Del Valle had been shot, authorities said.

According to a GoFundMe account, the victim struggled to back up her sister who was bullying online.
“Before I know, one of the older adults (carload) came with the attackers and cowardly hit my sister,” says the GoFundMe page.
In an e-mail Monday night, Seiver refused to comment further on the circumstances or possible cause causing the shoot, referring to the ongoing investigation.
As of Monday night, the detectives were not arrested or disclosed the suspects to the public.
Sheriff officials initially said the victim was a 16-year-old girl, but later announced on Saturday that she was an adult.

“When they met up, they thought they were meeting two girls, but they ended up meeting a carload of four people,” Del Valle said.
A fight broke out and Janessa was shot and killed, according to deputies. Del Valle said her 13-year-old was then attacked.

“Janessa was the best – she was very strong, very determined; she was the leader, and she loved her younger sister,” said Del Valle. “The thing that hurt her the most that day was to see her sister crying about what she said about her.”
Janessa was a former high school athlete studying at San Diego City College. Del Valle said he had a serious message for his parents.
“If you have children and see your kids being bullied, you have to do something about it – don’t think it’s innocent or think it’s going,” Del Valle pointed to a photo of Janessa. “This may be your child.”
The family placed candles, flowers and photos in Janessa, where she was shot, hoping someone would stand out.
“We’re not going to rest until justice for my daughter,” Del Valle said. “He was my sunlight, he was my athlete, he woke up every morning and just wanted to be a better person and he was very special.”
