Frank Bough the Former Grandstand presenter Frank Bough has died at the age of 87. The TV sports personality died on Wednesday in a care home, a family friend told the BBC.

Frank Bough Dies at the age 87- BBC Reported

Frank Bough, one of the most familiar faces on BBC television from the 1960s to the 1980s, has died at the age of 87.

He joined the BBC as a reporter for what would become Look North, and went on to host some of the corporation’s most popular shows, including Grandstand and Breakfast Time.

But his career came to an abrupt end after a newspaper exposed his use of drugs and prostitutes.

Bough died last Wednesday in a nursing home, a family friend told the BBC.

Bough began hosting Sportsview in 1964, succeeding Peter Dimmock, before moving on to Grandstand, the BBC’s leading sports program on Saturday afternoon.

In 1983 he participated in the launch of the BBC’s Breakfast Time, before resigning in 1987 to host the Holiday program.

But he was fired by the BBC in 1988 after tabloid revelations about cocaine and prostitutes.
The story was a particular shock, given Bough’s hitherto clean family man image.

He married Nesta Howells after leaving the army in 1959. They had three sons: David, Stephen and Andrew. Bough met his wife while he was doing his national service. She stood by him during the scandals that marred his later career.

Frank also developed a long-term friendship with comedian Richard Herring after meeting on LBC radio in the late 90s.
