A vulnerable man who was murdered at home by a drug dealer out on license would “never have met his killer” if police had not broken down his door, his mother told an inquest. Christopher Laskaris, who suffered from Autism, was murdered by Philip Craig who then returned to steal from his flat days later – and even rifled through his pockets as he lay dead on the floor.

Christopher Laskaris, 24, was stabbed through the heart by Philip Craig at his flat in Leeds in November 2016. Christopher Laskaris, 24, was stabbed to death by Philip Craig who returned to ransack the flat in Leeds days later, even rifling through his pockets as he lay dead.  Craig, who was jailed for life after a trial, had a long history of violent offenses and was out on license when he killed Mr. Laskaris on November 4, 2016.

The body of Christopher Laskaris was found at the property in St John’s Close, Hyde Park, in November 2016 – around two weeks after he was stabbed in the heart by Philip Craig.

Today Fiona Laskaris, Mr. Laskaris’ heartbroken mother, told Wakefield Coroner’s Court that police had broken down his front door weeks before his death over concerns for his welfare.

Christopher Laskaris had won a scholarship to the Charterhouse public school and a London university but did not take them because of his problems, his mother said. “Such a lovely young man with so much to offer couldn’t get that little bit of help he needed to function in this world,” she said. “We just couldn’t get help. It went on and on and on.” Mrs. Laskaris and her daughter Cara want to find out why Mr. Laskaris was left in a “vulnerable situation” in which an attacker could gain access to his flat.

“I’m concerned that my son was left in this position. That a murderer could gain access,” said Mrs. Laskaris.

Craig was jailed in 2017 for life with a minimum of 25 years.
