Robert Coltrain Killed his Missing Friend Brian Trotter and facing Murder charges

A Virginia man faces a murder charge for the murder of his missing friend whose body was discovered in the trunk of a car after an accident in Miami-Dade, authorities said.

Robert Avery Coltrain, 25, was arrested on one count of second-degree murder for the murder of Brian Trotter, 25, according to an arrest report.

The report said that Florida Highway Patrol agents responded to a vehicle accident on The Palmetto Expressway heading south near Northwest 154th Street around 4 p.m. Sunday and I found the driver, Coltrain.

Officers immediately sensed a foul odor coming from the back of Coltrain’s Acura, and the car was towed to the Westland Mall parking lot in Hialeah, according to the report.

Cops watched Coltrain remove some belongings from the car, including a Glock pistol case that contained a firearm, according to the report.

The report said the police officers continued to smell the smell coming from the car, so they opened the trunk.
“As a result of the continued odor and the presence of insects, FHP officers opened the trunk of the vehicle and discovered a body,” the report says.

The body was later identified as Trotter, who was last seen alive on October 17 after Coltrain picked him up from his home in Triangle, Virginia, according to the report.

Trotter, an aspiring rapper, had been reported missing by family members the next day.

Trotter’s body was wrapped in a piece of cloth and in an advanced stage of decomposition, according to the report.
A preliminary examination by the Miami-Dade medical examiner found that Trotter had been shot multiple times in the torso, and evidence showed that Trotter had been shot at least once inside the car with the Glock, according to the report.

Coltrain was arrested and booked into the Miami-Dade jail, where he was being held without bond on Monday, records showed. The lawyer’s information was not available.
