Popular radio personality Bob Mabena died at the age of 51.
Mabena has worked in the radio and broadcasting industry for institutions such as Metro FM, Heart FM, 947 and SABC since 1989.
Mabena worked as the station manager of POWER 98.7 in MSG Africa and hosted the POWER Breakfast Show.
He also served as the Programming Group Head at MSG.
Bob Mabena best Known for
Mabena has been known to host South Africa’s biggest radio shows for over 30 years throughout her career.
Mabena was the station manager and breakfast show host at Power FM. He died of cardiac arrest on Monday.
Given Mkhari, president of Power FM, described his death as a major loss.
Bob Mabena Work and Career
Mabena was a famous television and radio host. Power FM said in a statement that Mabena had succumbed to a heart condition.
“What we announced that POWER 98.7 Breakfast Host Mr. Bob Mabena died of cardiac arrest on Monday afternoon, on Monday, 10 August 2020, happened with deep grief and pain. The family reconciles with his death and respectfully asks the public to provide them with the appropriate space. More details will be revealed when the time comes, ”he reads.
Mabena started her radio career in 1989 at Radio Bop. After spending three years at Radio Bop, he was hired by Radio Metro’s founding Station Manager, Koos Radebe.
For over thirty years of his career, he has worked in Highveld Stereo, Kaya FM, Power FM and other major media outlets.
Mabena’s death came just two months after she told Twitter followers that her beloved grandmother had succumbed to COVID-19.

He was hospitalized on Saturday and was discharged this morning (Monday). He suffered more on the way home and they returned to the hospital. He was in intensive care when I came to the hospital. Ms. Mabena was summoned to the room when they declared her dead. ”
