Earlier, a Tulsa County judge had denied a request to broadcast any body cam video at two different hearings. During the September hearing, it was decided to air the video on September 14. The decision allowed the Tulsa Police Department to edit part of the video.

Mayor G.T. Bynum responded to the video on Facebook. Saying that he understands the legal reasons behind his release, he encourages people not to watch unless they have to:


Body footage of the murder of Sergeant Craig Johnson and the attempted murder of Officer Aurash Zarkeshan was released this morning. As the CEO of the city government, I felt a responsibility to monitor it. I’ve just done it, and I can’t say it strongly enough: if you don’t need to watch this video for your work, don’t watch it.

 


I have to watch a lot of body cam images as part of my job. I can only think twice in my life – on the death of family members – when I cry as I watched the result of this video. This is horrible.

I understand the legal reasons for his release. I respect the right of citizens to see the actions of their officials.


But if you respect these brave guys like I do, then don’t watch this video. Don’t share it. Only pray for them, their families, and those who risk their lives to keep us safe.

Allegedly armed, Ware is accused of murder in the shooting of Sergeant. Craig Johnson and shooting to kill Officer Aurash Zarkeshan in the Tulsa Police Department.
The accused escape driver, Matthew Hall, gave up a pretrial and will be on trial. Hall is charged with murder and crime.
