The victims of a devastating fire that destroyed a home in southwest Melbourne have been identified as a young family of three.

Abbey Forrest, 19, her partner Inda Sohal, also 19, and their 19-day-old daughter, Ivy, were asleep upstairs at their Point Cook home when it caught fire around 3.40 a.m. Wednesday.
The couple was confirmed dead later that morning, but Ivy’s body was not found in what was left of the three-bedroom, two-story home until later that day.
At a family fundraiser, Abbey’s sister Emily described the couple and their little girl as “beautiful souls” who would deeply miss each other.
“In the early hours of Wednesday, December 2, a fire in a house in Point Cook claimed the lives of my 19-year-old sister, her loving partner and their nearly three-week-old daughter,” he wrote.
“I am raising money to help with the cost of funerals and memorials for these three beautiful souls who saw their lives tragically cut short.
“Any help is really appreciated.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but is being treated as a suspect.
“He is certainly being treated as a suspect, primarily due to the intensity of the fire,” said Detective Sergeant Major Mark Kennedy.
“When the fire services first arrived, they were completely involved. The house was raging, particularly up front and up … (and) with accidental fires that don’t normally occur. ”

Arson and explosives detectives believe an accelerator may have been used and are investigating a mattress that was found on the floor in the ground-floor area of the home where he apparently fell asleep in recent days.

Kennedy added that neighbors made a “brave and heroic effort” to rescue the occupants, including one who used a ladder but was overwhelmed by the intensity of the flames.
“People were yelling, ‘Someone is there. Someone is still there, “a man who broke down his garage door in an attempt to help told 7NEWS.
“From the floor to the ceiling there was fire. I probably took two or three steps and that was it, I couldn’t go any further. ”
A neighbor who was awakened by his own smoke alarms told 7NEWS that he had seen a woman in the window of the house “gasping frantically for air.”
“We tried everything, we didn’t really know what else to do, we couldn’t run into the house,” he said.
“We just threw an ax out the window and broke it hoping it would come out and one of us would catch it.
“I don’t think he had the energy to scream that he was just trying to breathe.”
